Research Opportunity

The **Center for Research, Development, and Innovation (CRDI)** is a dedicated department of Kadambari Memorial College, established to nurture a culture of inquiry, innovation, and scholarly engagement among students and faculty. This year, CRDI invites bachelor-level students to apply for a small-scale research grant focused on the Guthi system among the Newar and Gurung communities.

The **Guthi system** is an indigenous socio-cultural institution in Nepal that has historically managed land, cultural events, rituals, and community welfare through collective organization and local governance. Despite modernization and legal reforms, Guthi practices continue to shape community identity and social cohesion among indigenous groups.

However, with changing state policies, land reforms, urbanization, and generational shifts, the Guthi system is under increasing pressure. Despite its historical importance, limited academic research exists on how Guthis are adapting to contemporary challenges and what their future holds.

This grant aims to encourage students to explore and document the Guthi system among the Newars and the Gurungs. Students can narrow their study to any specific area within the Guthi practices among these two indigenous groups.
